Managing Tanium Server (local) settings

Tanium Server settings control aspects of the connections between the server and other Tanium Core Platform components or external servers. The settings also control features such as logging and Tanium Client peering. Normally, you configure most of these settings when you install Tanium Core Platform servers, but you can use the Administration > Local Settings page to modify the settings when necessary. When troubleshooting an issue, your Tanium Technical Account Manger (TAM) or Tanium Support might ask you to review or confirm the settings, but rarely ask you to change them. For descriptions of the settings, see Tanium Core Platform Deployment Reference Guide: Tanium Core Platform server settings.

You must update the settings on each Tanium Server in a high availability (HA) deployment; the servers do not synchronize the settings.

You require the Administrator reserved role to configure Tanium Server settings.

Edit Tanium Server settings

  1. Go to Administration > Local Settings.
  2. Select the setting that you want to configure and click Edit.
  3. Enter a Setting Value.
  4. Set the Value Type to string , number, or protected (to hide the value in the grid).
  5. Click Save and confirm the operation when prompted.

View protected Tanium Server settings

As a security precaution, some settings have a Value Type of protected, which means the Local Settings grid displays protected instead of their actual value. As a best practice, display protected settings when your computer monitor is visible only to users who are authorized to see the settings. Display protected settings as follows:

  1. Go to Administration > Local Settings.
  2. Select the setting that you want to view. The page displays a View Protected Value button above the grid.
  3. Click View Protected Value and click OK in the confirmation prompt. A popup window displays the value. Note that if the setting has no value, the popup is empty.
