Installing Zero Trust

Tanium Cloud automatically handles module installations and upgrades.

For information about configuring Zero Trust for Tanium Cloud, see Configuring Zero Trust.

Use the Tanium Console Solutions page to install Zero Trust and choose either automatic or manual configuration:

  • Automatic configuration with default settings (Tanium Core Platform 7.4.2 or later only): Zero Trust is installed with any required dependencies and other selected products. After installation, the Tanium Server automatically configures the recommended default settings. This option is the best practice for most deployments. For more information about the automatic configuration for Zero Trust, see Installing Zero Trust.
  • Manual configuration with custom settings: After installing Zero Trust, you must manually configure required settings. Select this option only if Zero Trust requires settings that differ from the recommended default settings. For more information, see Installing Zero Trust.

Before you begin

  • Read the release notes.
  • Review the Zero Trust requirements.
  • Assign the correct roles to users for Zero Trust. Review the User role requirements.
    • To import the Zero Trust solution, you must be assigned the Administrator reserved role.
    • To configure the Zero Trust action group, you must be assigned the Administrator reserved role, Content Administrator reserved role, or a role that has the Action Group write permission.

Import Zero Trust

Perform the following steps to install the Zero Trust solution on the Tanium Server.

If you have multiple Tanium Servers in an active-active configuration, you only need to perform these steps on one Tanium Server if you have Tanium Core Platform 7.4.3.1204 or later.

  1. Sign in to the Tanium Console with an account that has the Administrator reserved role.
  2. From the Main menu, go to Administration > Configuration > Solutions.
  3. In the Content section, select the checkbox for Zero Trust and click Import.

If you need to install any prerequisite Tanium solutions, select the corresponding checkboxes for those solutions as well.

  4. Review the content to import and click Begin Install.

Manage solution dependencies

Other Tanium solutions are required for Zero Trust to function (required dependencies) or for specific Zero Trust features to work (feature-specific dependencies). See Solution dependencies.

After you import or upgrade Zero Trust, verify that the correct version is installed:

  1. Refresh your browser.
  2. From the Main menu, go to Shared Services > Zero Trust.
  3. To display version information, click Info Info.
