Configuring Trends
If you did not install Trends with the Apply All Tanium recommended configurations option, you must enable and configure certain features.
When you import Trends with automatic configuration, the following default settings are configured:

Trends boards | Trends imports all available boards and sources for the initial gallery. This includes boards and sources provided by any other Tanium solution that has a service account configured. After import, boards may take several minutes to initially display. If you import Trends with the default settings and later import another Tanium solution, Trends automatically imports the boards and sources for that solution. If you import Trends without the default settings, you will need to manually import the boards and sources from other Tanium solutions. |
Configure Trends
Configure visibility groups
Select the computer groups from which you want Trends to collect data. When Trends collects results from saved question sources, the results are split into aggregate count records by the computer groups that you select. You can add or remove computer groups at any time.
Users must have explicit computer group permissions to view data for the corresponding computer groups.
- From the Trends Overview page, click Settings
.
- From the Groups tab, select the computer groups from which you want to collect data.
- Click Submit.
Set up Trends users
You can use the following set of predefined user roles to set up Trends users.
To review specific permissions for each role, see User role requirements.
On installation, Trends creates a Trends user to automatically manage the Trends service account. Do not edit or delete the Trends user.

Trends Administrator
Assign the Trends Administrator role to users who manage the configuration of Trends. This role has unrestricted access to all actions and content in Trends.
Trends Operator
Assign the Trends Operator role to users who manage the configuration of Trends but do not need to manage the service account. This role has unrestricted access to all actions and content in Trends.
Assign the Trends Administrator role to users who manage the configuration of Trends. This role has unrestricted access to all actions and content in Trends.
Trends Author
Assign the Trends Author role to users who create or edit boards and sources.
This role can perform the following tasks:
- View, create, edit, or delete boards
- View, create, edit, or delete sources
- Export or import boards and sources
- Publish reports from boards
Trends Board Author
Assign the Trends Board Author role to users who create or edit boards.
This role can perform the following tasks:
- View, create, edit, or delete boards
- View sources
- Publish reports from boards
Trends Board Viewer
Assign the Trends Board Viewer role to users who view boards in Trends.
Do not assign the Trends Service Account and Trends Service Account - All Content Sets roles to users. These roles are for internal purposes only.
