Install a firmware update

When you run a Health Check, you might see messages alerting you to perform a firmware update.

You can use the Advanced Maintenance menu to stage and apply BIOS firmware updates, iDRAC firmware updates, and PERC firmware updates. You must update the BIOS firmware, if applicable, before you can update the iDRAC or PERC firmware.

Updating a firmware update is a major task. The process can take from 10-30 minutes, depending on model. Let the firmware update complete before attempting any other tasks with the appliance. Do NOT manually power off or reboot the appliance.

  1. Log into the TanOS console as the user tanadmin.

    The TanOS console displays the tanadmin menu.

  2. Enter Maintenance Mode:
    1. Enter B to go to the Appliance Maintenance menu.
    2. Enter C to go to the Maintenance Mode menu.
    3. Enter 1 and follow the prompts to toggle on Maintenance Mode.
  3. From the Maintenance menu, enter X to go to the Advanced Maintenance menu.
  4. Enter 1 to go to the Firmware Update menu.

    You must update the BIOS firmware, if applicable, before you can update the iDRAC or PERC firmware.

  5. Follow the prompts to update BIOS firmware.
  6. Return to the Firmware Update menu.
  7. Follow the prompts to update iDRAC and PERC firmware.
  8. Exit Maintenance Mode:
    • From the Maintenance Mode menu, enter 2 and follow the prompts to toggle off Maintenance Mode.

Perform a software reset

The Appliance Maintenance > Reset menu has two options:

  • Perform a software reset to erase the Tanium application software.
  • Perform a factory reset only if you want to erase both the configuration and the installed software.
  1. Log into the TanOS console as the user tanadmin.
  2. Enter B to go to the Appliance Maintenance menu.
  3. Enter X to go to the Advanced Maintenance menu.
  4. Enter 2 to display the Reset menu.
  5. Use the menu to perform a software reset or a factory reset.

Re-install ACLs

If you experience issues copying to or from the tancopy /incoming or /outgoing directories, you can use this menu to reapply the access control lists (ACL) for those directories.

  1. Log into the TanOS console as the user tanadmin.
  2. Enter B to display the Appliance Maintenance menu.
  3. Enter X to go to the Advanced Maintenance menu.
  4. Enter 3 and follow the prompts to reapply the ACLs.

View the TanOS upgrade log

  1. Log into the TanOS console as the user tanadmin.
  2. Enter B to display the Appliance Maintenance menu.
  3. Enter X to go to the Advanced Maintenance menu.
  4. Enter 4 to view the TanOS upgrade log file.

View the TanOS partition sync log

  1. Log into the TanOS console as the user tanadmin.
  2. Enter B to display the Appliance Maintenance menu.
  3. Enter X to go to the Advanced Maintenance menu.
  4. Enter 5 to view the TanOS upgrade log file.
